In our new workshop, you'll discover strategies to leverage your learners' existing knowledge across languages, foster multilingual practices, navigate the science of reading, and enhance oral language skills. Additionally, you'll learn how to build practical classroom routines that ensure meaningful engagement with texts, boosting comprehension and overall reading ability.

This online workshop takes place 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. ET from 19-23 August 2024 and will cover the following topics:
Day 1: Celebrating Multiliteracies
Day 2: Science of Reading and Multilingual Learners
Day 3: Oral Language as Foundation for Literacy
Day 4: Scaffolding Comprehension
Day 5: Classroom Routines for Participation
All sessions will be recorded and available on the TESOL Canvas platform for participants for a month following the workshop.
Once you complete the workshop, you'll receive a digital badge you can share online! An electronic certificate of completion can be provided upon request.

About the Instructor
Hetal Ascher is currently a professional learning specialist at WIDA. She has over ten years of experience serving multilingual learners in various capacities including as an English language teacher, program coordinator, and independent consultant. She is an active volunteer with TESOL International Association and is currently serving on the leadership team of the Reading and Vocabulary Interest Section and the Professional Development Professional Council. She has a master's degree in ESL education and a bachelor's degree in ESL K-12 education and is pursuing a doctorate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
